Every morning, I used to drink a cup of hot water. One morning, our microwave broke, so I thought, “Well, I guess I won’t be drinking hot water this morning.”
It took a few minutes before I remembered that a microwave was not the only way to heat hot water, just the one we were used to.
Habit constricts our ability to see solutions.
However, when we begin with the perception and belief that we live within an infinite universe, we can trust that there is always a way to accomplish something.
But to see the solution, we must accept that it may not be how we think or what we want it to be.
The Infinite does not provide only one path, way, supply, or opportunity. It’s the infinite, after all!
That can be hard to remember.
The habitual, lack-based worldview always attempts to creep in and separate us from infinite possibilities.
I can always tell when I am feeling separate.
I start having dialogues with myself, sometimes playing out more than one role.
This differs from my “normal” talking to myself.
The separation dialogue berates me with how it could have been, should have been, or what I might have said if I had been wise enough to say it.
Getting out of that separate and dialoguing state sometimes feels impossible, but it can be done.
However, it takes a willingness to turn off the separation channel and tune into the infinite channel.
One way to do this is to have a grateful dialogue with yourself. This will reset your point of view and state of mind.
As I walk in the morning, I often do a walking meditation. I practice returning my focus to gratitude and away from whatever message the separation channel plays.
One day during that meditation, I experienced a new awareness about the statement:
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you.”
This is another way of saying we need to move our perception to the Infinite and trust in its provision first. Not after something doesn’t work. First.
It doesn’t matter how good my intentions may be for what I want, or even if I want it for another, if I haven’t put my focus in the right place first.
Obsessive vigilance is required when we intend to move from the self-righteousness of fixing what appears to be broken or separate, to God’s righteousness which already is the wholeness of Love.
Seeking to understand first the kingdom of God is not about getting something for ourselves or others, but the intent and desire to really know and live as One.
Meeting anger, resentment, and sorrow with all-encompassing, unconditional love for ourselves and each other is one way out of the unhappiness of separation.
The sooner we choose this perception, the sooner we will find the peace and comfort of the joyful atmosphere of the kingdom of God.
What does all this have to do with making hot water?
Sometimes, we think there is only one way to forgive, one way to seek the kingdom of God first, or one way to experience atonement (at-one-ment.)
However, there are many ways to take these actions or find solutions.
Love, the nature of the Infinite, is expansive, not constrictive.
All solutions are already present. We only need to step into that awareness to find them. It takes practice. But it’s possible.
